Now in its fourteenth year, Dexter Drama Directing Series’ (affectionately referred to as “3D”) purpose is to showcase the power of student-driven work. All of the one-acts within this series are student-directed by upperclassmen and, as always for Dexter Drama, the productions are student-acted and student-crewed. We are very proud of this unique production that celebrates both student leadership and student writing; since its debut twelve years ago, the "3D" Series has always had at least one student playwright. We feel lucky to have students within Dexter who have the talent, drive, and ambition to meet this challenge and affirm the DDC's mission to encourage students to explore & experience all areas of theatre.

The Magic School Bus: Bus for Lunch
Another day, another field trip for Ms. Frizzle's class when they set out to learn “What happens to the food we eat?” Arnold is trying to break the school record for gum chewing in order to win a ticket and make Wanda’s dreams of riding the wildest, scariest, best scream-your-lungs-out-ride in the whole world true. Unfortunately, Arnold accidentally swallows his gum, disappointing Wanda and ruining his chances of breaking the record. Ms. Frizzle enters, ready to begin a lesson about the digestive system with a field trip. This trip requires one student to remain at school, and Arnold gladly volunteers to stay behind. Sure Thing
Sure Thing is a short comic play by American playwright David Ives. Taking place over ten minutes, it focuses on the chance meeting of two characters, Betty and Bill, who have their conversation constantly interrupted and reset by the use of a ringing bell that rings every time one of them responds negatively to something the other says. Sure Thing deals with themes of sexism, inner life and thoughts, and the role of fate and chance in what relationships influence our lives.

Game of Tiaras by Don Zolidis directed by Ella Markel
Stage Managed by Noelle Whipple
When the aging king of a Magical Kingdom (England) decides to split his empire between his three daughters, Cinderella, Belle, and the Snow Queen (who in no way resembles a copyrighted character), terrible tragedy ensues. Terrible, hilarious tragedy. Combining the gut-wrenching plot twists of Game of Thrones, and the soul-numbing despair of Shakespearean tragedy, this adaptation of King Lear will leave you dying with laughter as the body count mounts. When you play the Game of Tiaras, you win or you die.
