Now in its fourteenth year, Dexter Drama Directing Series’ (affectionately referred to as “3D”) purpose is to showcase the power of student-driven work. All of the one-acts within this series are student-directed by upperclassmen and, as always for Dexter Drama, the productions are student-acted and student-crewed. We are very proud of this unique production that celebrates both student leadership and student writing; since its debut twelve years ago, the "3D" Series has always had at least one student playwright. We feel lucky to have students within Dexter who have the talent, drive, and ambition to meet this challenge and affirm the DDC's mission to encourage students to explore & experience all areas of theatre.
Each show will get to perform twice the weekend of November 20th through 23rd! Each night is sure to be filled with excitement and laughter.

Yellow Wallpaper

Yellow Wallpaper follows a mother living with Postpartum Depression in the 1910s. Her husband, a doctor, locks her in their upstairs nursery, away from her child, and doesn’t allow her to write as a "cure" for her sickness. As the story progresses, Jane, the mother, becomes obsessed with the yellow wallpaper in the nursery. She begins to see women in the patterns of the wallpaper.
40 years later, Jane’s granddaughter, Eleanor, finds Jane’s diary, discovers family secrets, and inevitably reveals the truth about the family.

Three Blind Dates follows Lilith as she faces the trials and tribulations that come with getting back out there. As her friend guides her through different dates that each end in disaster, she grapples with the existential dread that accompanies finding a life partner. Can she find her "other half"? Or, maybe, true love can only be found in the places you aren't seeking.

Bedridden by an unknown illness, Ash is stuck spending her teenage days inside. While she can’t physically travel the world as she dreams to, the world comes to her through a variety of strangers. She befriends these strangers and discovers that a post office is being built near her home. Her dreams begin to bloom into something that just might be attainable.

Muddy Death and Strudel by Jason Pizzarello is a sarcastic comedy about Edgar Beere, a man determined to plan his own Shakespearean-style death. He hires Bruno, a professional who specializes in unusual ways to die, to help him choose the perfect ending. As Edgar, his wife Martha, and Bruno debate everything from drowning to being eaten in a pie, their plans become increasingly ridiculous. But when Edgar thinks everything is finally settled, things take an unexpected turn.

Me Thinketh I Stinketh by Jack Canfora comedy about William Shakespeare as a young playwright in Elizabethan London. When we meet him, Will is discouraged after yet another rejection by his acting troupe and decides to quit showbiz altogether. That night in his sleep, he’s visited by three well-meaning but less than totally competent spirits who show him what great plays and sayings he will one day write if he sticks with it, and what the world would look like without them.
