Now in its fourteenth year, Dexter Drama Directing Series’ (affectionately referred to as “3D”) purpose is to showcase the power of student-driven work. All of the one-acts within this series are student-directed by upperclassmen and, as always for Dexter Drama, the productions are student-acted and student-crewed. We are very proud of this unique production that celebrates both student leadership and student writing; since its debut twelve years ago, the "3D" Series has always had at least one student playwright. We feel lucky to have students within Dexter who have the talent, drive, and ambition to meet this challenge and affirm the DDC's mission to encourage students to explore & experience all areas of theatre.

Written by Tim Kelly
Directed by Caleb Drummond
Stage Managed by Charlotte Malo

The Mouse and The Raven

This comedy takes place in the local towns newspaper office, where three well known clubwomen discover obituaries are often written before ones demise, except for dates. They descend upon the writer and demand what is written about them. Over the objections from the writer they finally win after physically rummaging through her filing cabinets, leaving everything in a mess. Though they get what they want, what's written about them ends up not being to their liking but delivers hilariously to the audience.

Radium Girls

Radium Girls: Competition Edition
Written by
 D.W. Gregory
 Directed by Violet Vrsek
Stage Managed by Catie Hoffman

The radium girls is a very serious piece as it is based in reality. In the 1910s and 1920s the US radium company ruled the United States, with even the factory jobs themselves being high-end. This was because radium was thought to be a cure all, and the girls in the factories were in contact with it 5 days a week from 9-5. The long exposure to this dangerous element led to long term effects, and for some people, led to death. The story follows Grace Fryer and her attempt to stand up for herself and her co-workers but as we follow her journey, we begin to see the fallout from the nuclear affects this had on real people, as a dramatic re-enactment of what happens when you blindly trust your boss.

SIX is a contemporary retelling of the lives of the six wives of Henry VIII, each given a modern pop-star persona. The musical is told in concert setting, where each wife takes a turn sharing her perspective on her marriage to Henry VIII via song. The wives compete to determine who deserves to be the group's lead singer by deciding which wife suffered the worst fate. The show combines historical facts with a modern twist, with heavy themes of female empowerment and reinterpretation.
