Thinking about running for an Officer Position or looking to be an educated voter? Here are some important dates to keep in mind!
Officer Elections
Officer Nominations - TBD
Meet in Palmer's Room (RM71) to nominate or be nominated for an officer officer position for year. If you are not able to attend officer nominations, you MUST send Mrs. Palmer an email listing the positions you will accept. Ask a peer or current officer to nominate you for the positions you will accept (this should be the same positions in the list you emailed to Palmer. If you do not include a position on that email list then you can NOT be nominated for said position).
Officer Letters Due - TBD
If you accept a nomination for a position and are planning on running you must write your Officer Letter and turn them in to Mrs. Palmer (as a PDF via email), otherwise you will be ineligible to run. Officer letters must be one page long, in 12pt font, and single spaced. Everyone should practice good citizenship and be an informed voter by reading the Officer Letters before the election day.
*Note - Please write a letter for every position you are running for
Officer Election Day - TBD
Meet in the DHS Media center.
This is the day candidates give their Officer Speeches! The speeches will be in the same order as nominations.
IMPROV CAPTAIN
PRESIDENT
VICE PRESIDENT
COMMUNICATIONS (2)
SERGEANT AT ARMS
THESPIAN LIAISONS (2)
TECHNICAL CREW LIAISON
PIT LIAISON
Candidates will give a prepared 2-minute speech. They will give their speeches individually, with the other candidates out of the room. Once each of the candidates has offered their speeches for a particular office; the voters will be allowed to discuss the candidates and the office in general in a constructive fashion. During this discussion, all nominees for the position will be in the hallway.
If candidates are nominated for more than one position, then the first speech they give will be the full 2 minutes, and every position afterwards will be allocated 30 seconds.
CHANGES INSTITUTED IN THE 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR:
The Thespian Liaison position will become a two person position, similar to the Communications Position.
The Improv Captain Position will be reduced from having 2 Captains to 1. Students will nominate people for this position at Nominations, and from that list, David Moan will go through an audition process and select the Improv Captain. These nominees will NOT have to write a letter or give a speech at elections, they will only need to go through the audition process. Note: Students will NOT be voting for this position, but they will be nominating the candidates.
Only rising Sophomores and Juniors can accept nominations for Communications and Thespian Liaisons. Anyone accepting this position must understand that they are accepting a nomination for a TWO-YEAR position, and if elected, they will be in that position for the next two years.
